Abstract
【解決手段】セラミックス製でストレートフロー構造のハニカム基材において、セル隔壁の細孔容積を部分的に異ならせた。
細孔容積が大きい部位ではコート層が厚くなり、細孔容積が小さい部位ではコート層が薄くなるので、一度のウォッシュコートでコート層の厚さに分布を形成することができる。

Description
コージェライト粉末を主とするコンパウンドを用い、押出成形によりハニカム形状の成形体を得た。この成形体を乾燥して乾燥体とし、その一端面から深さ41mmの範囲をアルカリ系焼結促進剤の水溶液中に浸漬し、その範囲のセル隔壁に水溶液を含浸させた後引き上げて、1400℃で5時間焼成した。これにより直径35mm、長さ50mm、セル断面四角形、セル数 600cpsi、セル隔壁厚さ90μmのハニカム基材を得た。
アルカリ系焼結促進剤の水溶液の濃度が異なること、その水溶液に浸漬した長さが異なること以外は実施例1と同様にして水溶液を含浸させ、実施例1と同様にしてハニカム基材を調製した。そのセル隔壁中の2μm以下の細孔の細孔容積を水銀ポロシメータにて測定し、結果を表1に示す。
アルカリ系焼結促進剤の水溶液を含浸しなかったこと以外は実施例1と同様にしてハニカム基材を調製した。そのセル隔壁中の2μm以下の細孔の細孔容積を水銀ポロシメータにて測定し、結果を表1に示す。
アルカリ系焼結促進剤の水溶液を乾燥体の全長に含浸させたこと以外は実施例1と同様にしてハニカム基材を調製した。そのセル隔壁中の2μm以下の細孔の細孔容積を水銀ポロシメータにて測定し、結果を表1に示す。
実施例及び比較例の各触媒を、各実施例の触媒では細孔大容積部10が排ガス上流側となるように、それぞれエンジンベンチに装着し、 A/Fを14と15に1Hzで振動させる雰囲気下、入りガス温度 950℃の排ガスを50時間流通させる耐久試験を施した。その後、同一条件にて室温から 400℃までHC浄化率を連続的に測定し、HCを50%浄化できる温度(HC50%浄化温度)と、HC50%浄化温度に到達するまでの時間(ウォームアップ特性)を測定した。結果を表1に示す。
本実施例のハニカム基材を図2に示す。このハニカム基材では、外周部に細孔大容積部10が形成され、内周部に細孔小容積部11が形成されている。
ウォッシュコート時には、表面張力によってセル隔壁のコーナ部の厚さが厚くなるという現象がある。そのためコーナ部においては、コート層の深部に存在する触媒金属を利用することができない場合があった。また厚さが厚いために熱応力も大きくなり、コーナ部のコート層にクラックや剥離が生じる場合もあった。
Claims (5)
- セル隔壁で区画された多数のセル通路をもちセラミックス製でストレートフロー構造のハニカム基材であって、該セル隔壁の細孔容積が部分的に異なることを特徴とする触媒用ハニカム基材。
- 前記細孔容積は、細孔径が2μm以下の微細孔の細孔容積である請求項1に記載の触媒用ハニカム基材。
- 前記セル隔壁の細孔容積は、ハニカム基材の軸方向又は径方向で異なる分布をもつ請求項1又は請求項2に記載の触媒用ハニカム基材。
- 請求項1〜3のいずれかに記載のハニカム基材と、該ハニカム基材のセル隔壁にウォッシュコート法で形成され触媒金属を担持した触媒担持コート層と、からなることを特徴とする排ガス浄化用触媒。
- 前記セル隔壁の細孔容積は排ガス上流側が排ガス下流側より大きく、前記触媒担持コート層の厚さは排ガス上流側が排ガス下流側より厚い請求項4に記載の排ガス浄化用触媒。
