り、上記バルーンが細長い管状体と、共に押し出される
異なる重合体材料の少くとも2つの層(8A,8B)よ
り成り、この層のうちの第1層(8B)が上記第2層
(8A)の内側に配置され、上記第1層の引張強さが上
記第2層より大きい医療用のカテーテル。
Description
いるバルーン(風船)及びこのようなバルーンを用いた
医療器具に関するものである。より詳しくは、本発明
は、特に血管、弁、泌尿器管等に用い得るようデザイン
された医療用または外科用のバルーン及びこのようなバ
ルーンを用いたカテーテルに関するものである。本発明
のバルーンは、特殊用途のため望まれる拡張機能を有す
るよう特別に作ることができ、所定の直径に膨張でき、
ピンホールや漏れを生ずることがない。

ルーンが用いられている。ポリエチレンバルーンは、加
熱によって同様の物質に接合でき、先端の直径も比較的
に小さいため、即ち、バルーンとカテーテル間の接続部
を極めて小さくできるため特に好ましい。また、ポリエ
チレンバルーンは軟らかいため、血管内を傷つけること
なくこれを血管内に通すことができる。更に、ポリエチ
レンバルーンはその壁が厚いためピンホールを形成する
おそれがない。

抗張力が大きく、耐破裂強度も高いため、収縮したとき
の形状を小さくし、厚さも小さくすることができる。然
しながら、ポリエチレンテレフタレートのバルーンをカ
テーテルに接続するには接着剤が必要であり、この接着
剤による接合はしばしば信頼性に欠けることが多く、ま
た接合点でカテーテルが厚くなる欠点がある。更に、ポ
リエチレンテレフタレートのバルーンはその壁が極めて
薄いためピンホールが形成される可能性が高い。
エチレンテレフタレートのバルーンの欠点を、異なる重
合体材料の共に押し出され延長された複数の層を積層し
て形成した管体より成る積層バルーンを用いることによ
って除去できることを見出した。
欠点のない2つの物質の利点を組み合わせて多層バルー
ンとしたことにある。本発明のバルーンは、ポリエステ
ル類、ポリカーボネート類、ポリエチレンテレフタレー
ト及びこれらの共重合体等、またはナイロン等のポリア
ミド類の比較的に厚い、2軸配向されたエチレン重合体
材料を用いる。これら材料は、ベース層を構成し、バル
ーンに抗張力と、耐磨耗性を与えるようになる。このベ
ース層の厚さは約0.2〜1.0ミル以上とする。第2
の層はベース層と共に押し出され、共に延長される。こ
の第2の層は、好ましくはポリエチレン及びその共重合
体類のようなカテーテルと熱融着でき、従って接着剤を
必要としないポリオレフィンとする。この熱融着可能な
第2層はベース層の一側、好ましくは両側に配置する。
自体ではポリエチレンカテーテル管に容易には熱融着で
きない材料を用いることにある。これらの例では、相互
に接合可能な材料のスリーブをカテーテルとバルーン間
の接合部分にかぶせ、スリーブを加熱してバルーンをス
リーブに接合し、同時にスリーブをカテーテルに接合し
てカテーテルとバルーン間に液密シールを形成せしめ
る。

層を環境から守るバリヤーとして機能する。例えば、ナ
イロン等のポリアミドをベース層として用いた場合、プ
レクサーのような無水マレイン酸変性エチレン重合体類
の薄層を共に押し出し形成できる。これらの層をベース
層の両側に配置した場合、ナイロンとしての特性から湿
気を防ぐ効果が得られる。異なる層を互いに結合せしめ
るため付加的な層を共に押し出し形成することができ
る。例えばナイロンを用いた場合には、これと熱融着可
能な層間に結合層を必要としない。然しながら他の例と
して、ベース層としてポリエステル類やポリカーボネー
ト重合体類を使用したとき、接着を強める必要がある。
このような接着補強は、紫外線照射であり、または共に
押し出し形成される接着層を用いることである。
スリーブを用いる例では、接着剤を用いなければカテー
テルに接合できない材料の従来の医療用バルーンを用い
ることができる。少なくともスリーブの内側に配置した
ポリエチレン層と、バルーンと同じ材料のベース層とに
よって多層スリーブを形成することができる。ポリエチ
レンはカテーテルとバルーンの両者に接着するため熱処
理のみによって互いに両者を結合できるようになる。

タレートをベース層として用いた場合、耐破裂強度の高
い極めて薄い厚さのものとすることができる。例えば、
直径3.0mmの無水マレイン酸変性エチレン重合体を
ナイロンのベース層上に被覆したとき、バルーンの厚さ
を0.5ミルとすることができ、ポリエチレンテレフタ
レートのバルーンと比較可能なほど収縮時形状が小さ
く、ポリエチレンバルーンよりは極めて小さいものとす
ることができる。ナイロンを用いた場合、この材料は2
軸配向でき、ポリエチレン材料よりも抗張力を高くで
き、その結果耐破裂強度を弱めることなくより薄いバル
ーンを得ることができる。

ルーンに比べ磨耗に対する抵抗とピンホール形成に対す
る抵抗がより高い。ポリアミド材料はポリエチレンテレ
フタレートとポリエチレン材料よりピンホール形成に対
する抵抗が高い。ポリアミド材料のバルーン自体はポリ
アミドがポリエチレンテレフタレートのように硬くなく
柔らかいため、血管を通るとき血管を傷つけることはな
くポリエチレンのものに比較可能である。

の商標セラーPT樹脂化合物(このましくはデラウエア
州ウイルミングトン所在のE・Tデュポン デネマール
スCo.から販売されているセラーPT4368)を用い
る。この場合には、磨耗に対する抵抗がより大きく、よ
り柔らかいバルーンを得ることができる。セラーを用い
た押し出しによる多層バルーンによればピンホール形成
を減少でき、治療時の損傷を最小ならしめることができ
る。更に、セラーをバルーンの内側層として用いた場合
には、内部電極または穴あけできるラジオオペークマー
カーを共に用いることができる。

ポリオレフィンの内層8Cが共に押し出されることによ
って接合される。プレクサーは無水変性ポリエチレンで
あり、米国オハイオ州シンシナチのクオータンケミカル
コーポレーションから販売されている物の商標名であ
る。この熱融着可能な内層8Cはカテーテル管3の端部
6に直接接続され、熱封着ジョイント10によってバル
ーン8に固定される。同様の熱封着ジョイント11をバ
ルーン8とカテーテルの先端7間にも形成する。

ことなく血管に通すことができる柔らかさを有し、ま
た、ピンホール形成に対する抵抗が大きくなる。
ポリエチレンテレフタレートの主層8Bと、ポリエチレ
ンの外層8Aとより成るバルーンをカテーテル管3の端
部6の周りに配置し、次いでナイロンのベース層20B
と高密度のポリエチレンの熱融着層20Cより成るスリ
ーブ20をバルーン8の端部にかぶせ、バルーン8のポ
リエチレンをスリーブのポリエチレンに封着し、ナイロ
ンをカテーテル管3に封着する。強度が必要な場合には
最も内側の層を高密度ポリエチレンで形成し、最も外側
の層をプレクサーを挟んだナイロンによって形成する。
“手ざわり”が重要であり、このためにはセラー樹脂を
押し出すことが考えられる。このセラー樹脂は単独で内
層及びまたは外層として用いるか、またはポリエチレン
テレフタレートと混ぜることができる。セラー樹脂の外
層(セラー樹脂とポリエチレンテレフタレートを50対
50で混合したもの)を有する、気圧6atmで膨張せ
しめた厚さ1.6ミルのバルーンを中間グレードの紙や
すりで前後にこすりこの作業をバルーンが破れる迄行っ
た。セラー樹脂、即ち50対50混合層を用いたバルー
ンは200回以上のこすり迄破れなかったが厚さ1.8
ミルのポリエチレンテレフタレートのバルーンは87回
で破れた。セラー樹脂は強度の大きいポリエチレンテレ
フタレートであり、既知の技術によってベース層と共に
押し出すことができる。

路L1 とL2 はジョイント10の部分で消滅せしめ、第
3の通路L3 のみが残るようにする。

とバルーン8(好ましくは第3の通路L3 )を通して延
び、(図2,図3に示すように)先端7内の軸孔(図示
せず)から先端7外に突き出る。

10°〜220°Fの温度に約35秒間再加熱し、加圧
によってバルーンを所望の直径に膨張せしめる。次いで
加圧を止め、デフレクターをバルーンの端部に摺動し、
バルーンを約310°Fの温度に第3の時間だけ加熱
し、重合体マトリックスを2軸配向せしめる。上記第3
の時間の加熱によりバルーンの層が薄くなるのが阻止さ
れ、また、設定加熱期間に応じて設定された寸法を越え
てバルーンが膨張することが阻止される。この加熱時間
は約8秒である。

成り、このバルーンの内部が上記通路に連通されてお
り、上記バルーンが細長い管状体と、共に押し出される
異なる重合体材料の複数の層(8A,8B,8C)より
成り、この層の1つがセラー(商標名)樹脂層より成る
医療用のカテーテル。 - 【請求項19】 上記セラー(商標名)樹脂層が層(8
A)であり、上記複数の層の他の層(8B)が上記セラ
ー(商標名)樹脂層(8A)の内側に配置されている請
求項18記載のカテーテル。 - 【請求項20】 上記セラー(商標名)樹脂層が層(8
C)であり、上記複数の層の他の層(8B)が上記セラ
ー(商標名)樹脂(8C)の外側に配置されている請求
項18記載のカテーテル。 - 【請求項21】 端部(6)を有する管状部材(3)
と、 この管状部材を貫通する少なくとも1つの通路(L1,
L2,L3)と、 少なくとも1つの開放端を有するバルーン(8)とより
成り、このバルーンの内部が上記通路に連通されてお
り、上記バルーンが細長い管状体と、共に押し出される
異なる重合体材料の少くとも3つの層(8A,8B,8
C)より成る医療用のカテーテル。 - 【請求項22】 ある外径の管を形成するため異なる重
合体材料の第1層とこの第1層の外側に配置される、上
記第1層より引張強さが小さい第2層とを含む少くとも
2つの層を共に押し出す工程と、 上記管の少くとも1つの区域を膨張せしめその外径を上
記管の外径より大きくするため上記区域を加圧し、同時
に第1の温度に加熱せしめる工程と、 上記管の膨張された区域により医療用バルーンを形成せ
しめる工程と、内部を貫通する少くとも1つの通路を有
するカテーテル軸を形成する工程と、及び上記少くとも
1つの通路を上記バルーンの内部区域に連通するよう上
記バルーンを上記カテーテル軸部に取り付ける工程とよ
り成る医療用カテーテルの製造方法。 - 【請求項23】 ポリアミド類,ポリカーボネート類,
ポリエステル類及びこれらの共重合体より成る群から選
んだベース層と、ポリエチレンとその共重合体より成る
群から選んだ熱封着可能な層とを共に管状に押し出す工
程と、 上記管状部材をガスによってその中心直径を初めの直径
より大きく膨張せしめて上記ベース層を2軸配向せし
め、同時にこの膨張した管状部材を上記2軸配向に十分
な温度に加熱する工程と、 上記膨張した管状部材を冷却する工程と、 上記膨張した管状部材の温度を上記2軸配向温度に直ち
に上昇せしめる工程と、 2度加熱した上記管状部材を冷却し、ガスを抜き、上記
管状部材の形を管状に維持せしめ、上記ベース層が2軸
配向のまま維持され、上記熱封着可能な層が2軸配向さ
れないようにする工程とより成る医療用のバルーンの形
成方法。 - 【請求項24】 第1層と、この第1層に接合した、共
に押し出される第2層とを有する、共に押し出されるバ
ルーンを支持する細長いカテーテル本体とより成り、 上記第1層が第1重合体を有し、上記第2層が混合され
た重合体を有する医療用バルーンカテーテル。 - 【請求項25】 上記第1層がポリエチレンテレフタレ
ートである請求項24記載の医療用バルーンカテーテ
ル。 - 【請求項26】 上記混合重合体がポリエチレンテレフ
タレートを有する請求項24記載の医療用バルーンカテ
ーテル。 - 【請求項27】 上記第2層が上記第1層の半径方向の
外側に配置されている請求項24記載の医療用のバルー
ンカテーテル。 - 【請求項28】 上記第2層が最も外側の層である請求
項27記載の医療用バルーンカテーテル。 - 【請求項29】 上記第1層が2軸配向されている請求
項24記載の医療用バルーンカテーテル。 - 【請求項30】 第1層と、この第1層に接合した、共
に押し出される第2層とを有する、共に押し出されるバ
ルーンを支持する細長いカテーテル本体とより成り、 上記第1層がポリエチレンテレフタレートを有し、上記
第2層が混合ポリエチレンテレフタレートと第2重合体
