Description

According to the present invention there is provided an office building construction having a floor area defined by front and rear and left and right side walls, said floor area communicating externally of the office building through entrance areas disposed adjacent opposite walls of said floor area, said entrance areas further communicating, through respective reception areas, with a central office area.

Preferably, the central office area comprises groups of workstation modules located around at least a portion of its periphery and at least one group of adjacent offices located towards the centre of the central office area.

Further preferably, the office building comprises a plurality of floor areas and means for communicating between said floor areas are provided adjacent said entrance areas.

An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a plan view of a ground floor of an office building construction according to the invention. - 2 Referring now to the drawing, there is shown an office building construction generally indicated at 10 according to the invention. The office building 10 comprises a plurality of floor areas 9 disposed one above the other, each floor area 9 being defined by front and rear walls 11,12 and left and right side walls 13,14 respectively. Each floor area 9 is supported by a plurality of piles 15 which lie both inside and outside the boundary walls 11,12,13,14. Two piles 15' are located adjacent and outside the side wall 14 which forms the inner edge of a ground floor terrace 16, the outer edge of which is defined by a border 14*.

A set of doors 17 provides access from outside the front-right area of the floor area 9 to an entrance area 25. The entrance area 25 communicates with a reception area 23 which comprises a desk 27 and seating facilities 28. Similarly, a set of doors 17 provides access from outside the rear-left area of the floor area 9 to a second entrance area 25, the entrance area 25 also communicates with a reception area 23 which may also comprise a desk and seating facilities.

The front-left area of the floor area 9 comprises means for communicating between the floor areas 9 including elevators 26 and a stairwell 21. Thus, easy access to other floors areas 9 from both reception areas 23 is provided. Washroom facilities 22 are further provided between the stairwell 21 and the elevators 26 adjacent the front-left corner of the floor area 9.

The central area of the floor area 9 comprises two groups of rectangular offices 20 comprising three offices 20 disposed side-by-side adjacent two offices 20 disposed end-to-end. Each office may comprise storage compartments S for storage of information particular to that office.

Groups of workstation modules W are located adjacent the rear and right walls 12,14 respectively. Thus, easy access is provided between the workstations W which are located adjacent the groups of offices 20. Other offices 20 are located about the remainder of the floor area 9 to provide for tasks independent of those carried out within the central office area; and other storage compartments S are located about the remainder of the floor area 9 for storage of information to be accessible throughout the floor area 9. The rear wall 12 also includes a stairwell 21 which provides an emergency escape route from the central office area.

A plurality of general purpose common rooms 24 are located around the periphery of the central area. The rooms 24 are adjacent both the groups of offices 20 and workstations W and may provide copying, canteen, conference or computer facilities to be generally available.

Claims (4)

1. An office building construction having a floor area defined by front and rear and left and right side walls, said floor area communicating externally of the office building through entrance areas disposed adjacent opposite walls of said floor area, said entrance areas further communicating, through respective reception areas, with a central office area.

2. An office building construction as claimed in claim 1, wherein the central office area comprises groups of workstation modules located around at least a portion of its periphery and at least one group of adjacent offices located towards the centre of the central office area.

3. An office building construction as claimed in claim 1, wherein the office building comprises a plurality of floor areas and means for communicating between said floor areas are provided adjacent said entrance areas.
