Abstract

The invention provides for an office building construction comprising a plurality of floor areas disposed one above the other, the floor areas being defined by boundary walls comprising front and rear walls and left and right side walls. A ground floor comprises a first central block whose ceiling height is greater than that of a first peripheral area surrounding it. A first floor comprises a second central block located above the first central block area which communicates via stairs with a second peripheral area surrounding it and whose ceiling height is equal to that of the ceiling height of the second peripheral area.

Description

An Office Building Construction The present invention relates to an office building construction.

According to the invention there is provided an office building construction comprising a plurality of floor areas disposed one above the other, said floor areas defined by boundary walls comprising front and rear walls and left and right side walls, a ground floor comprising a first central block whose ceiling height is greater than that of a first peripheral area surrounding it, a first floor comprising a second central block located above said first central block area which communicates via stairs with a second peripheral area surrounding it and whose ceiling height is equal to that of the ceiling height of said second peripheral area.

Preferably, means for communicating directly from the first perpheral area to the second central block are provided by a staircase.

Further preferably, means for communicating from the first peripheral area to the second peripheral area are provided by one or more stairwells.

An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein similar numerals are used to indicate corresponding elements in both drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a plan view of a ground floor of an office building construction according to the invention; and Figures 2 is a plan view of a first floor of an office building construction which is disposed above the ground floor of Figure 1; Referring now to the drawings, there is shown therein an office building construction 10 comprising at least two floor areas (Figures 1 and 2) supported one above the other in a conventional manner. The floor areas 90 are defined by boundary walls comprising front and rear walls 11,12 respectively and left and right side walls 13,14 respsectively.

A main entrance 15, Figure 1, gives access to a reception area 16. There are further provided doors 17 giving access from the reception area 16 to a conference room/auditorium 18 whose ceiling height is greater than that of the peripheral area of the floor area 90. A projection room 19 at the rear of the auditorium 18 may be accessed through door 21 with front wall 20 serving to support such display equipment (not shown) as may be necessary.

The area 22 to the rear of the auditorium 18 comprises the lavatory and washroom facilities. Further to the rear of this area are located offices 23 and 24.

The areas 18,19,22,23 and 24 define a central block portion whose ceiling height is greater than that of the peripheral area 30 surrounding it.

The peripheral area 30 comprises large offices 40 located around the edge of the floor area 90 interspersed with groups of workstations 39. The workstation groups 38 comprise individual workstations 38' separated by partitions 39.

The peripheral area 30 defines a corridor between the offices 40 and workstations 38 and the central block portion circling the building. Two stairwells 41, and 42 are accessible through doors 43,44 respectively from this corridor. Lavatories and washrooms 22 are also accessible from this corridor through doors 45.

Primary access to the first floor, Figure 2, is provided by a staircase 70. This first floor is supported on both minor and major pillars 50,51 respectively. The staircase 70 rises to the level above the central block portion of the ground floor giving access to a raised open plan area 80 defining the central block of the first floor. The area underneath the staircase 70 comprises three ascending reservoirs 71,72 and 73. These may be used as decorative ponds, cascading fountains or arboreta.

The open plan area 80 comprises individual workstations 38' separated by partitions 39. It communicates with the peripheral area via stairs 81. This peripheral area again comprises pairs of workstations 38 and offices 40. Again the gap between the central portion 80 and the offices 40 and workstations 38 located around the periphery of the floor area 90 defines a corridor from which any work space on the floor area may be accessed.

The invention is not limited to the embodiments described herein which may be modified or varied without departing from the scope of the invention.

Claims (4)

1. An office building construction comprising a plurality of floor areas disposed one above the other, said floor areas defined by boundary walls comprising front and rear walls and left and right side walls, a ground floor comprising a first central block whose ceiling height is greater than that of a first peripheral area surrounding it, a first floor comprising a second central block located above said first central block area which communicates via stairs with a second peripheral area surrounding it and whose ceiling height is equal to that of the ceiling height of said second peripheral area.

2. An office building construction as claimed in claim 1 in which means for communicating directly from the first perpheral area to the second central block are provided by a staircase.

3. An office building construction as claimed in claim 2 in which means for communicating from the first peripheral area to the second peripheral area are provided by one or more stairwells.

4. An office building substantially as hereinbefore described and with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
