Abstract
986,983. Klystrons; ion-getter pumps. PHILIPS ELECTRONICS & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 21, 1962 [Aug. 24, 1961], No. 32067/62. Heading H1D. An ion-getter pump is arranged directly on the cathode housing of a klystron. As shown, the pump comprises a ring-shaped anode 9 and titanium cathode plates 17 covering the walls 15 of the pump, ports 1, 5, soldered together, connecting the pump to the cathode housing 3 of the klystron. The anode is preferably held at 3 kv. with respect to the cathode by using a potential divider 24, 25 connected between earth and the cathode housing of the klystron which is preferably at - 18 kv. with respect to earth. A magnetic field is provided in the pump by oxidic permanent-magnetic discs housed in a weak-magnetic box which slips on to the pump so that the port 5 of the pump extends through a recess in the box.
