Abstract
949,637. Ion-getter pumps. VARIAN ASSOCIATES. Sept. 11, 1961 [Oct. 3, 1960], No. 32575/61. Heading H1D. An ion-getter pump apparatus comprises a plurality of lesser chambers 33 communicating with a central hollow chamber 32 which is connected to the structure to be evacuated, the lesser chambers having a reactive cathode structure and an anode structure 39, wherein means are provided for applying a high potential to the anode, the means including a high voltage lead 40 protected by an insulator 43, the insulator and a portion of the high voltage lead being located wholly within a recessed portion 44 of the wall of the envelope. The recessed portion preferably comprises an open-ended cylinder which is attached to the rest of the wall of the envelope so that either the cylinder extends wholly within the central chamber, or a part of it extends without the chamber as shown. A magnetic field is provided within the lesser chambers by a plurality of ferrite elements 51.
