Abstract
668,141. Magnetrons. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and FISHER, T. W..C. Aug. 17, 1950, No. 20433/50. Class 39 (i). In a multi-cavity magnetron of the kind in which the evacuated envelope of the magnetron also encloses the magnetic polepieces, the polepieces 13, 14 are centred with respect, to the cavities by being positioned within the ends of a tubular anode block 10, each polepiece being retained in the anode block by means of a cup-shaped member 23 having its smaller rim sealed to the anode block at 26, and the larger rim sealed to the polepiece at 25. Each polepiece has a shoulder 17 which abuts against the anode block to ensure correct positioning and the polepiece 14 supporting the cathode is insulated therefrom by means of a glass tube 36. Output from the magnetron is taken from the chamber 30 having a glass window 31 of a composition such as described in Specification 449,807, [Group XXIII]. The magnetron is evacuated through a tube 39. The polepiece 13 carries a tuning member 19 operated by a screw-thread 40. The construction is such that the last seals to be made, i.e. those at points 25, are effected at a region remote from the anode surfaces, which are therefore not contaminated by products arising from the formation of the seal.
