[Class 39 (i)] In an electric discharge tube having an envelope comprising a glass portion 4 and a metal portion 5 which may be an electrode of the tube, such as an anode which is heated during evacuation and operation of the tube, the glass-to-metal seal 6 is kept cool by cutting a groove 7 around the electrode, leaving a section 8 of less than half the normal anode thickness.
