Abstract

969,560. Ladle nozzles. THOMAS MARSHALL & CO. (LOXLEY) Ltd. April 24, 1963 [May 4, 1962], No. 17209/62. Heading F4B. In a bottom pouring ladle having a composite nozzle consisting of a nozzle shell 13 fitted with a refractory insert, the upper end of the shell supports the stopper 17 of the ladle out of contact with the insert, the shell being supported by a device 16 which may be bolted or otherwise secured to the ladle 10 and which includes a detachable ring member 23 for retaining the insert in position within the shell 13. The insert may comprise a simple refractory element, or, as shown, it may comprise elements 19, 21 arranged one within the other. The upper end of the insert element 21 is tapered as at 22 and engages the sloping side 18 of the nozzle shell 13. The inner walls of the element 21 slope to fit the tapered insert element 19. Refractory material 16a spaces the shell 13 and the refractory lining 11 of the ladle. A washer 26 of material such as asbestos is placed as shown. The insert 21 is introduced from below and cemented in position and insert 19 is cemented within it.
