Abstract
1,042,962. Discharging molten metal. BOCHUMER VEREIN FUR GUSSSTAHLFABRIKATION A.G. April 18, 1963 [April 19, 1962], No. 15318/63. Heading F4B. The flow of molten metal from a tap-hole 2 is controlled by a refractory block 5 at the outlet with a hole 6 of predetermined size. In a modification the refractory plug is secured in the outlet of a tapping basin mounted on the side of the furnace, Fig. 2, not shown. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, not shown, the regulating aperture 14 is formed in the bottom of a tapping basin 11 and a stopper 15 is provided. The furnace may be tapped through a siphon 17, Fig. 4, not shown, with a nozzle 18 to regulate the flow of metal. A cap 19 of metal, paper or plastic material closes the end of the siphon to allow a vacuum to be set up in the pipe 17, and is melted when the metal flow reaches it. The arrangement enables the flow of steel into a vacuum degasfication ladle to be controlled.
