Abstract
1,154,054. Discharging molten metals. INTERSTOP A.G. 22 Aug., 1967 [23 Aug., 1966], No. 38707/67. Heading F4B. A molten metal casting container 2, closed by a sliding nozzle 5 is provided with a flexible plug 70 to prevent the molten metal coming into contact with the closed nozzle. On casting, the nozzle is opened and the plug removed by pressure of the metal flowing out from the nozzle. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), a rigid plug may be used above the sliding nozzle, which plug is melted on commencement of casting either by the heat of the metal above it or by use of an induction heating coil, or is burnt out with a lance or a torch. The plug may be in the form of a plate.
