Abstract

913,180. Ladles. BALZERS PATENTUND LIZENZ-ANSTALT. Feb. 9, 1961 [Feb. 16, 1960], No. 4837/61. Class 82 (1). [Also in Group XXII] A device for obturating the opening 6 of a bottom-pouring ladle 1 (e.g. in a vacuum furnace) comprises two plugs 8 and 12 which fit into enlarged portions of bottom piece 9, plug 12 being hollow and cooled from the inside. The upper plug 8 is capable of controlling the flow of the melt from the ladle and when this is to be stopped the plug 12 is inserted with the coolant circulating. To avoid contamination of the melt plug 8 may be removed once a metal plug has formed in opening 6. To recommence pouring the plug 12 is removed and the metal plug is melted by the heat of the melt above it.
