Abstract

932,891. Electron beam apparatus. STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO. Feb. 2, 1960 [May 1, 1959], No. 3639/60. Class 39 (1). [Also in Group XXII] In an electron beam furnace for casting metal ingots, the beam 37 is directed downwardly against the edge of the melt stock 31 and into the molten pool 39 on top of the ingot 38. The ingot is withdrawn in the direction shown. The melt stock 31 is fed into the beam and is moved laterally at the same time to maintain the drip point above the centre of the pool. Several electron guns 34 may be provided around the melt stock
