Abstract

987,190. Casting processes. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. March 16, 1964 [March 14, 1963], No. 10235/63. Heading B3F. A protective atmosphere is provided within a mould by the volatilization of a solidified or liquefied inert or relatively inert gas such as argon, CO 2 or N. The solidified or liquid gas may be placed on the bottom of the mould before pouring, placed on the surface of the melt after pouring has commenced, or held within the mould in a suitable container or containers near the point of entry of the melt.
