Abstract

Liquid metal stream is fed into an annular space between a cooled mould turning about its vertical axis, and a cooled central core turning about a vertical axis at approx. the same speed as the mould. The hollow e.g. steel blank is extracted vertically downwards turning around the vertical axis of the mould and at the same speed by extraction rollers. Liquid slag is constantly maintained on the annular surface of solidifying molten metal which surrounds the core, but the external peripheral surface of the solidifying molten metal adjacent the mould is not covered by the slag.
