960,032. Discharging molten materials. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Feb. 19, 1962 [Feb. 17, 1961], No. 6413/62. Heading F4B. A closure device for the melt outlet of a melting apparatus comprises a plunger which is put into said apparatus to open and close said outlet and which is not provided with means for liquid cooling, a refractory tube encircling and radially spaced from said plunger and a filling between the plunger and the tube. In the Figure the plug and the rod 12 below the surface of the melt 11 are made of molybdenum, the rod 13 above the level of the melt 11 may be made of scale proof iron, the tube 14 may be made of a high melting point oxide such as sintered alumina or sintered spinel, non-oxidizing metal or alloy or refractory brick and the filling in space 15 may be glass, glass powder, alumina or powdered sillimanite.
