Abstract

965,875. Tiltable induction furnaces; crucibles. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. March 19, 1963 [March 31, 1962], No. 10792/63. Heading F4B. An induction furnace in the form of a crucible 4 having, on the side opposite to its pouring spout 6, an inward pouring aperture 8 associated with the discharge channel 16 of a shaft furnace, can be tilted about at least two axes, the first of which, A is disposed beneath aperture 8, and about which the crucible can be tilted downwards for pouring purposes, and the second of which, B is disposed slightly below the pouring spout 6 when the crucible is tilted downwards about the axis A, and about which the crucible can be tilted upwards to empty it completely. The furnace, shown in its basic position in Fig. 1, comprises a jacket 1, ceramic heat insulation 2, the crucible 4 surrounded by an induction coil 5, and a cover 7. A partition 21 is provided to promote efficient mixing of the contents of the furnace. Pins 18 can be inserted through bearings 10 secured to the furnace body beneath aperture 8, and through corresponding bearings in pedestal 14 so that the furnace can be tilted downwardly about axis A to assume the position shown in Fig. 2, and molten metal can be poured into a ladle 15. Hydraulic cylinders 11 with pressure pistons 12 acting on spindles 13 are provided for tilting purposes. Pins can also be inserted through bearing 9 and a bearing in pedestal 19 corresponding to axis B, and with the pins at axis A removed, the furnace may be upwardly tilted, Fig. 4 (not shown), and completely emptied. From the basic position, pins can be inserted through bearing 9 and through a bearing in pedestal 19 corresponding to axis C, and again with the pins at axis A removed, the furnace can be downwardly tilted, Fig. 3 (not shown), and deslagging can be carried out through aperture 8.
