Abstract
863,409. Tapping furnaces. MAERZ OFENBAU A.G. Jan. 4, 1960 [Jan. 3, 1959], No. 276/60. Class 51 (2). Molten metal from a furnace 5 is discharged through a launder comprising a section 6 fixed to the furnace and a section 7 arranged to be tilted by a crane 10 about a rod 8 resting on forks 9 attached to an inner ladle 1. Metal may be discharged through sections 6 and 7 into an outer ladle 3 or through section 6 into the inner ladle 1. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the outer section comprises superposed troughs, the upper one being curved to discharge slag into a third ladle at the side of the others. In further modifications, Figs. 7, 8 and 12 (not shown), the launder has two independently movable troughs or superposed troughs swinging in either a vertical or horizontal plane and all adapted to feed three ladles in line. Further modifications show the movable sections disposed on a horizontally displaceable girder, mounted on a pivoted arm, or itself pivoting horizontally about a point remote from the furnace, Figs. 9-11 (not shown). A final modification, Fig. 13 (not shown), has a Y- shaped movable portion thereby serving three ladles in triangular formation.
