Abstract
1,032,395. Metallurgical converters. DAVY & UNITED ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Sept. 25, 1963 [Oct. 29, 1962], No. 40761/62. Heading F4B. A metallurgical converter comprises a refractory lined body 11 supported on a ring 12, Fig. 1 (not shown), tiltable about trunnions 13 by known mechanism 15, a removable cover 25 formed with holes for oxygen lances, and a waste gases offtake 16 to which air may be supplied for combustion of said gases. Charging is facilitated by the mouth 24 being substantially the same width as the body. The cover is suspended from a cantilever arm 29 with lateral arms 30 and extending from a standard 28 raised by hydraulic cylinder 31 and rotated by hydraulic cylinder 32 through radial arm 33. A tapping arrangement 18 comprises a port 23 leading to a smaller orifice 21 by a frusto-conical section 12.
