Abstract

1331565 Metallurgical converters EISENWERKE-GESSELLSCHAFT MAXIMILIANSHUTTE mbH 19 April 1971 [18 Feb 1970] 22096/73 Divided out of 1331564 Heading F4B A converter for the production of chromium steel from a crude iron melt as disclosed in Specification 1,331,564 (Division C7) comprises a steel jacket 3 of plates vacuum-tightly welded together with a refractory lining 4 and bottom blowing nozzles 7, a detachable hood 13 arranged to seal the converter mouth 12, a waste gas outlet 14 connectible to a vacuum source, and an air lock 15 for the addition of alloying elements. The nozzles 7, which are inclined to the longitudinal axis of the converter, each comprises an inner and outer tube 9 and 11 connected to conduits 8 and 10. Tube 9 supplies nitrogen-free oxygen and tube 11 an inert gas. A taphole 17 is closed by a gas-tight flap 18 during refining.
