Abstract

1455373 Converters DIDIER-WERKE AG 11 Feb 1974 [12 Feb 1973] 06098/74 Heading F4B The mouth 2 of a metallurgical converter with a sheet metal shell 1 includes a rim 4, a course 8 of magnesite or magnesia bricks 8 topped by a layer of rounded magnesite or magnesia 10 and backed by a rammed mass of carbon 9, and a course of carbon bricks 6. The carbon courses 6 and 9 conduct high away from the layers 8 and 10 so that the slag does not form an intimate bond with them and the rate of wear is thereby reduced. The layers 8 and 10 protect the carbon from oxidation.
