Abstract

1,125,618. Tundishes. PADERWERK GEBR. BENTELER. 21 Oct., 1965 [21 Oct., 1964], No. 44556/65. Heading F4B. [Also in Division B3] A tundish is supported by rollers 15, 16 on rails 13, 14 so that it can be moved with a combined horizontal and tilting movement from a casting position 5<SP>111</SP> through an intermediate checking position 5<SP>11</SP> (when its outlet nozzle is above the lowest part of its rim) to a lowest position 5<SP>1</SP> for emptying into a slag vat (12), Fig. 1 (not shown), after casting. In position 5<SP>111</SP> it is closed by a cover (4), fixed in a horizontal position with a hole (3) aligned to allow throughflow of melt from a ladle (1), and its outlet nozzle (7) is directly over a continuous casting mould (8). In all these positions it is located to receive melt from the ladle (1) but it is mounted on an arm (25), Fig. 3 (not shown), to be swung away horizontally about a pillar (23) to allow a replacement ladle (24) to be swung into position.
