Abstract
1281012 Slide valves for metallurgical ladles INTERSTOP AG 11 July 1969 [12 July 1968] 35167/69 Heading F4B A sliding closure arrangement 7, for the bottom outlet of a ladle 1 comprises an upper refractory plate 9 held in a metal frame 8 secured to the base of the ladle, so that the apertures 5 and 10 in the ladle and the plate are in alignment, and a lower slidable refractory closure plate 13 carried by a metal slider 11 which is mounted in the frame 8. Closure plate 13 is provided with an outlet aperture 12 and a discharge spout 15 which can be brought into alignment with apertures 5 and 10. In the closed position shown, at least one auxiliary passage 16 formed in the lower closure plate 13, lies in line with the apertures 5 and 10, to allow pressurized nitrogen, argon, oxygen or air from line 18 to be supplied to the ladle to prevent solidification of metal in the apertures 5 and 10. The control means for such gas supply may be co-ordinated with the position of hydraulically driven slider 11. A porous or perforated brick nozzle 17 may be provided in passage 16. In modifications (Figs. 2-4, not shown) the auxiliary passage may be formed by shaped recesses and/or bores extending through the plate 13.
