Abstract

1379927 Granulating metals ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 11 May 1972 [12 May 1971] 22119/72 Heading C7X Molten metal, e.g. steel, in a furnace 12 is tapped into a vertically movable ladle 13 and the melt stream atomized by e.g. argon or nitrogen from nozzles 24, 25. The furnace and ladle are mounted in a vacuum or protective gas tank 11. The granules are cooled whilst passing through a bellows 30. In operation, after charging the furnace 12, with the ladle 13 raised, a valve 18 between the tank 11 and bellows 30 is closed, both the bellows and the tank are filled with inert gas, the valve 18 opened, the ladle 13 filled and then lowered, and the melt atomized. After atomization, the valve 18 is again closed, and the tank 11 and bellows 30 filled with air. The ladle is centered by pins 20.
