Abstract

822,388. Rotary tilting furnaces. DEMAG A.G. April 26, 1957 [April 28, 1956], No. 13319/57. Class 51 (2). Furnace plant for refining pig iron includes a rotary tilting furnace 1 which may be tiltable about a horizontal axis and rotated in a horizontal plane about a vertical axis as disclosed in Specification 731,823, and, disposed about the periphery of the drum turning circle, offtakes 2 and 3 respectively opposite an oxygen lance 4 and a burner 5, a hopper 7 for charging fluxes, and a feed shoot 6. A ladle truck 9 and slag truck 10 run on rails 8 and an overhead crane 11 on a runway 12. During operation :-at position I the fluxes are charged with the drum slightly tilted; at position II molten pig iron is poured through spout 6 from a ladle carried by crane 11; at position IV any intermediate heating is performed and the drum is tilted slightly to pour off the metal; and at position V the drum is tilted steeply for slag discharge, by rocking its cradle on to an extended rolling track. The drum is rolled into a vertical position on said extended rolling track for renewal of the lining.
