836,640. Tilting furnaces ; charging powdered materials. BRYMBO STEELWORKS Ltd., and WELLMAN SMITH OWEN ENGINEERING CORPORATION Ltd. June 27, 1958 [July 1, 1957], No. 20730/57. Class 51 (2). A tiltable furnace for refining molten iron comprises a bowl-shaped hearth 10 mounted on rocking rollers and tilted by electric or hydraulic jacks 19 and 20, cylindrical side walls 11 formed with springs 23 and 24 for oxygen lances 25, and a removable domed roof 12. The furnace also has an offtake 13, a pouring spout 14, burner ports 26 and 27 and a charging door 15 with a slag notch immediately below it. Powdered ore, lime or limestone may be introduced through the lances which have their nozzles disposed just below or above the metal level. Opening 24 may be formed in a downward extension of the roof, Fig. 4 (not shown).
