Abstract
1,243,568. Treating materials in suspension; metallurgical converters. CONZINC RIOTINTO OF AUSTRALIA Ltd. 5 Dec., 1969 [10 Dec., 1968], No. 59567/69. Heading F4B. [Also in Division C7] Apparatus, . suitable for the continuous smelting of concentrates and/or the continuous refining of metals (see Division C7) (see for example Fig. 1) comprises a furnace chamber 6, means 5 for introducing concentrates or unrefined metal in the form of a shower, means 7 for jetting free oxygen containing gas, a circular bowl or receiving chamber 9, an elongate refining branch 10, a metal outlet 12, a slag conditioning branch 14 and a slag outlet 18. The apparatus may also include a slag settling well 17, a weir 16, oxygen lances 11, burners 20, means for the addition of materials 8 and 19 and flues 21 and 22.
