A pouring block 1 has, for the introduction of materials 7 (for desulphurizing and carburizing or for inoculating, modifying or alloying the melt), a conical chamber 2 into which opens at least one tangential channel 4 above the outlet 3. The melt, e.g. from the tap hole of a cupola furnace, is introduced into a duct 6. There may be a part 5 of the block above the channel 4 to hold back slag if the duct 6 is filled. The wall of the conical chamber 2 may be part of a hyperboloid. Several pouring blocks 1 may be used in cascade.
