Abstract

927,827. Refining metals. INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE FRANCAISE. June 14, 1961 [Aug. 5, 1960], No. 21414/61. Classes 72 and 82. Apparatus for intermixing flowing molten metal and reagents added thereto comprises at least one container having refractory walls, an inlet for molten metal, an overflow outlet, and a gas blowing zone in proximity to the overflow, the gas blowing means including a porous refractory element, whereby localized bubbling of the metal is effected. As shown, the gas blowing means may comprise a porous element 3a fitted in a sloping position below and slightly in front of an overflow 2a in a vessel 1. The porous element may be set horizontally in the bottom of the vessel, or vertically or sloping in the side walls. A part 5 of one of the side walls may be in the form of a removable wedge to allow the vessel to be emptied.
