Abstract
1327277 Holding furnaces GEORG FISCHER AG 12 Nov 1970 [18 Nov 1969] 53980/70 Heading F4B A holding furnace comprises a container 1, Fig. 2, having a substantially closed cavity 7 for receiving a liquid metal, a pouring opening with a seal 14 and stopper 13 and heating unit 11 detachably coupled thereto, the lower end of the cavity 7 being detachably connected by a feed channel 4, Fig. 1, to the lower end of a feed container 2 having a height at least equal to the maximum desired level 18 of the liquid metal in the cavity 7. The feed channel 4 and a heating channel 12 coupling the lower end of the cavity 7 to the heating means 11 are downwardly inclined, and the feed container 2 and the heating means 11 are located on the same side of the container 1 to allow tipping thereof. The feed container has a lower wall portion to allow slag and excess liquid metal to flow therefrom. Openings 8, 20 in the upper wall of the container 1 allow additives to be introduced and gas to be introduced or withdrawn.
