Abstract

1283084 Charging shaft furnaces COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 8 Sept 1970 [16 Oct 1969] 50962/69 Heading F4B Apparatus for charging a blast furnace or similar cylindrical container comprises a ball valve 3 operated by a tube 5, a distributer ring 8 operated by a rod 6 extending through said tube 5 and attached to a three-armed frame 7 supporting said ring. The upper part 9 of the ring is frusto-conical with the same slope as the bell, the latter being formed with V-shaped notches 11 in line with the arms of said frame 7. The outlet 2 in the wall 1 above the bell is chamfered at 4 to enable a seal with the bell. With bell and ring near to one another (Fig. 2b) charge material slides over both towards an outer zone of the shaft, whereas with the bottom of the bell slightly inside the ring (Fig. 2c) material is divided between an outer and an inner zone and with the ring raised further (Fig. 2d) all the material flows towards an inner zone.
