Abstract
1277361 Specimen containers for vacuum furnaces BALZERS PATENTUND BETEILIGUNGS-AG 2 Feb 1970 [10 Feb 1969] 4977/70 Heading H5H A specimen container of carbon or graphite, for use in vacuum furnaces of the type disclosed in Specifications 1,251,731 and 1,175,790, has its interior bottom surface located at such a level that the melt 36 in operation is surrounded by the hottest zone of the cylindrical container wall 31, the bottom portion 32 of the container being appropriately dimensioned in thickness and position. The container and its detachable lid 33 have projecting annular ends 34, 35, so that, when clamped between the electrodes of a furnace for the direct passage of current therethrough, cavities are formed which reduce the flow of heat from the container, Annular portion 34 is made longer than annular portion 35, and the cross-sections are reduced at the free ends thereof.
