Abstract
1326579 Casting processes; continuous casting INSTITUT ELEKTROSVARKI IMENI E O PATONA AKADEMII NAUK UKRAINSKOI SSR 19 Nov 1970 55010/70 Heading B3F An electroslag apparatus has consumable electrodes 11 from which drops 15 of metal fall into an annular trough 8 at the bottom of a chamber 2 containing slag 14 and the metal rises and flows through grooves 9 in the inner wall of the trough into a lower chamber 5 in which the metal solidifies to form a casting 10. There is cooling means 13 on the outside of the chambers. The grooves 9 may extend into the mould chamber 5. The arrangement is said to result in a shallow bath 17 with a near flat bottom.
