Abstract
1359277 Electroslag remeltirig processes INSTITUT ELEKTROSVARKI IMENI EO PATONA AKADEMII NAUK UKRAINSKOI SSR 13 Dec 1972 [13 Jan 1972] 57500/72 Heading B3F In a method of producing an ingot of variable cross-section by an electroslag remelting process, a consumable electrode 1 is melted in a vessel 2 having a slag bath 3 common with the mould 12 and the liquid metal formed fed into the mould from the vessel 2, a constant difference between the levels of the liquid metal baths 9 in the vessel and mould respectively being maintained by relative vertical displacement of the vessel 2 and mould 12. The mould is provided with a longitudinal slot accommodating a slide 8 which permits the vessel 2 to be raised as the ingot 6 grows. When the wider portions 15 of the mould are being filled with metal an additional consumable electrode 14 may be melted in the mould itself. In a modification the vessel 2 remains stationary and the mould moves. Alternatively both the mould and vessel 2 may be moved.
