1386721 Electroslag melting processes INSTITUT ELEKTROSVARKI IMENI E O PATONA AKADEMII NAUK UKRAINSKOI SSR 18 April 1973 18667/73 Heading B3F [Also in Division H5] In a method of producing a part-annular ingot 5 by an electroslag melting process, the blank 2 to be melted is in the form of an enclosed ring having one end attached to a dummy bar 4 and its other end immersed in a slag bath 11 contained in an upper portion 9 of a mould 7. Both the dummy bar 4 and blank 2 are rotated about an axis 13 to withdraw the ingot from the mould and simultaneously feed the blank into the slag bath. In the embodiment shown, the blank 2 functions as a consumable electrode and is insulated from the dummy bar by means 3. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), a non-consumable electrode (14) is used to heat the slag bath 11.
