Abstract
1358465 Apparatus for electroslag melting processes INSTITUT ELEKTROSVARKY IMENI E O PATONA AKADEMII NAUK UKRAINSKOI SSR 27 Oct 1972 [13 Jan 1972] 49548/72 Heading B3F [Also in Division H5] An apparatus for producing castings of variable cross- and longitudinal-sections by an electroslag remelting process, comprises a mould 17 having a longitudinal slot 19 in a side wall thereof, a slide mounted in said slot, a vessel 5, secured to said slide and communicating with the mould, a gauge 15 for measuring the level of molten metal in the mould, and means for vertically displacing the slide and vessel 5. A consumable electrode 3 is melted in the vessel 5 under a layer of slag 9, the molten metal thus formed flowing into the mould 17. As the level of metal in the mould rises, the vessel 5 is moved upwards. The vessel 5 is provided with an overflow slot 8 for molten slag and a non-consumable liquid metal electrode 6.
