Abstract
1432081 Electroslag remelting processes LEYBOLD - HERAEUS - VERWALTUNG GmbH 9 May 1974 [6 June 1973] 20636/7 Heading B3F In an electroslag remelting process in which continuous relative motion between the ingot 24 and the mould 20 is maintained while the ingot builds up, the relative speed between the ingot and the mould exceeds the growth rate of the ingot for the greater part of the melting process. Thus the surface of the pool 28 of molten metal gradually moves downwards relative to the mould as the process progresses. The position of the surface of the pool 28 may be monitored by measuring the temperature profile inside the mould, by immersing a probe into the slag 27 or by an ultrasonic device. The relative motion between the ingot and mould may be achieved by lowering the ingot on a platform 25 or by raising the mould 20.
