Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a composite ingot with uniform penetration of core metal with excellent productivity when manufacturing the composite ingot in an electroslag remelting method, by moving an electrode position in the radius direction of an ingot according to the penetration of a core metal.
CONSTITUTION: At the circumference of core metal 1 in water-cooled metallic mold 1, depositing metal 6 is melt-stuck by melting consumable electrode 3 in an electroslag remelting method to manufacture a composite ingot. In this case, as consumable electrode 3 is melted, water-cooled metallic mold 2 raises with a signal from detecting sensor 7 of molten-slag-surface provided to the internal wall of mold 2. Temperature sensor 8 of core metal provided to the inside of core metal 1 measures the temperature of the internal hole surface of core metal 1 and, in response to the signal from sensor 7, raises to be held at the interface between slag pool 4 and molten steel pool 5 invariably. According to the detection temperature of sensor 8, consumable electrode 3 moves toward to or away from core metal 1 so that the penetration of core metal 1 attains to a set value. Thus, a composite ingot with the uniform penetration of core metal 1 can be manufactured.
