Abstract
1,088,909. Continous casting process. GEBR. BOHLER & CO. A.G. Dec. 30, 1964 [Jan. 16, 1964], No. 52776/64. Heading B3F. Tubular metal products are continuously cast by withdrawing the casting from the mould 3 along an initially descending and then ascending curved path to a level at which the liquid core of the casting is in hydrostatic equilibrium and at a withdrawal rate sufficiently high that the liquid metal remains inside the casting at that level as pouring and withdrawal of the casting is continued. The skin of the leading end of casting is opened or cut off at the level 7, e.g. by a cutting torch 6. The level to which the liquid core will rise may be effected by variation of the pressure above the melt in the mould. The liquid core may be agitated, e.g. by mechanical vibrators or electromagnetic means.
