Process for the continuous casting of a metal strand and continuous casting plant for carrying out this process For the continuous casting of metals, in particular iron and steel, water-cooled continuous molds are preferably used, which allow the cast metal strand to be drawn as much heat as possible in the continuous mold. When the metal strand, which is not yet continuously rigid, emerges from the continuous mold, the metal strand is cooled by means of a suitable coolant, e.g. B. water, air, which are sprayed or blown directly onto the surface of the metal strand, further cooled.
Since the cooling and the associated stiffening of the metal strand emerging from the vertically arranged through-flow kokill.e cannot be achieved in any short time, the metal strand can only be cut into pieces of the required length when it has solidified throughout sen the continuous casting plants have a very considerable height. Such continuous casters cannot be built into existing factory halls in many places due to their great height.
For the transport of the ladles for the purpose of uninterrupted after filling the above the continuous mold angeord designated intermediate container, from which the liquid metal is poured into the continuous mold, crane tracks are also very high are required.
Even with relatively small strand cross-sections of, for example, 25-50 cm2, if the length of the strand pieces to be separated from the metal strand is to be around 3 m, the continuous casting plant has a height of 14-16 m or more, and it must be even greater Crane tracks arranged at a height are available.
Recently, attempts have been made to reduce the height of such continuous casting systems by bending the cast metal strand in the horizontal direction after leaving the continuous mold and after passing the lowering rollers and straightening it again after bending. It has been shown that these measures can reduce the height of the continuous casting systems, with the advantage that the strand pieces can be separated from the metal strand in a horizontal position and in any length.
It was found, however, that the bending of the metal strand can only be started when it has completely solidified, since otherwise impermissible stresses occur between the outer layer and the inside of the metal strand. But since the solidification distance depends on the cross-sectional size of the metal strand and the casting speed, and longer with increasing cross-sectional area and with increasing casting speed.
is, by the aforementioned measure of bending the metal strand, the height of the continuous casting plant can be reduced by a maximum of about 201 / o, and such a continuous casting plant must still have an undesirably large height. This nuisance can be remedied by the present invention.
The subject of the present invention is a process for the continuous casting of a metal strand in a water-cooled continuous mold, according to which the metal strand is cast in the continuous mold in the form of an annulus segment, after exiting the continuous mold in a circular guide path formed by support and guide rollers, whose mean radius of curvature corresponds to the mean radius of curvature of the annulus segment formed by the metal strand, guided,
it is cooled and withdrawn from the continuous mold by pulling rollers, whereupon the metal strand is straightened after complete solidification and deflection at the desired angle and is further conveyed on a straight path, on which straight path strand pieces of a required length are separated from the metal strand .
The cast metal strand does not need to be bent, but is created in the form of a circular ring segment, so that it can be straightened when it has solidified sufficiently after a certain distance.
The invention also relates to a continuous casting plant for carrying out this method.
In the drawing, an example of an embodiment of a continuous casting plant for imple mentation of the method according to the invention and details of the same are shown schematically. 1 shows a side view of part of the continuous casting plant, FIG. 2 shows a vertical center section through the continuous mold of this continuous casting plant on a larger scale,
3 is a side view of the guide device for the cast metal strand with a starting strand used as a closing organ for the continuous mold at the beginning of the continuous casting, the cooling device not being shown, FIG. 4 a plan view of the starting strand according to FIG. 3, FIG Side view of a first embodiment of a device for alternating loading because of the continuous mold and FIG. 6 is a side view of a second embodiment of a device for alternating loading due to the continuous mold.
1 with an intermediate container is referred to, wel cher is continuously fed with liquid metal by a pouring ladle, not shown in the drawing, transported by a crane. Below this intermediate container 1 is a through mold 2 is arranged, which has a cooling jacket 3, which is fed through a flexible line 4 cooling water which is derived through a second flexible line 5. This pass through mold 2 has a casting space 6, which has the shape of a circular ring segment whose cross-sectional center line has the radius R.
This radius R corresponds to the desired mean radius of curvature of the metal strand to be cast around the center O. Below the continuous mold 2, a cooling device 7 with coolant nozzles 8 is provided, to which a coolant, for example water, is supplied through a coolant line 9.
The coolant nozzles 8 are arranged in rows running parallel to the cast, arc-shaped bent metal strand emerging from the through-flow mold 2 in such a way that they direct the coolant evenly distributed over the entire circumference of the metal strand 10. Between the coolant nozzles 8, freely rotatably mounted support and guide rollers 11 for the metal strand 10 which has not yet solidified are arranged on the outside and inside. Below the Kühlein direction 7 two pairs of draw rollers 12, 12a and 13, 13a are provided in succession, between the draw rollers 12, 12a and 13, 13a of the metal strand 10 passes.
The pull rollers 12, 12a and 13, 13a are driven in such a way that they pull the metal strand 10 passing between them out of the continuous mold 2 at a speed corresponding to the casting speed. Of course, the circumferential speed of the pull rollers 12 and 13 resting on the outside of the bent metal strand 10 must be correspondingly greater than the peripheral speed of the pulling rollers 12a and 13a resting on the inside of the metal strand 10. The support and guide rollers 11 and the two pairs of draw rollers 12, 12a and 13, 13a together form an arcuate guide track with the mean radius of curvature R for the metal strand 10.
In the case shown, this guide path extends over approximately 90, so that the metal strand 10 when leaving the pair of draw rollers 13, 13a has at least an approximately horizontal direction. Behind the pair of pulling rollers 13, 13a, a straightening device with straightening rollers 14, 15 and 16 is arranged in which the metal strand 10 running through it, here already continuously solidified, is straightened after the desired deflection. The intermediate container 1, the cooling device 7, the support and guide rollers 11, the pairs of draw rollers 12, 12a and 13, 13a and the straightening rollers 14, 15 and 16 are mounted in a stand 17, which is only indicated in FIG.
The straightened metal strand 10 comes after Ver let the straightening rollers 14, 15, 16 on a row of support rollers 18 arranged one behind the other, on wel chen he continues to run. The support rollers 18 are mounted on a stand 19, which is shown in Fig. 1 only a little bit. In the areas of these trans port rollers 18, the metal strand 10 passes into a separating device of any known type, not shown in the drawing, through which strand pieces of the required length are separated from the metal strand 10.
Depending on the given conditions, the guideway for the metal strand 10 can also be designed so that the metal strand is deflected by more or less than 90 and the metal strand is straightened on an ascending or downward sloping straight after leaving this guideway and the Ge , by transport rollers ge formed web is transported further.
The continuous mold 2 must be completed at the bottom before continuous casting begins. For this purpose, a starting strand 20 is used, which can consist of a single, arcuate piece, which is introduced through the specific strand for the cast metal guide track and withdrawn at the start of continuous casting at a speed corresponding to the Giessgeschwin.
As shown in Fig. 3 and 4, however, this starting line consists of individual, detachably interconnected, the radius of curvature of the guide path correspondingly curved, relatively short parts 20 ', which abut each other with their end faces, engage with tongue and groove 21 and through each a tongue and groove 21 penetrating bolts 22 are connected to one another.
This subdivision of the starting line 20 has the advantage that the individual parts 20 'of the starting line are much easier to handle and at a suitable point, in the case shown, for example, between the pulling roller 13 and the straightening roller 16 individually introduced into the guiding path, in This verbun to each other and can be removed again from the guide track in the same way.
The described method for continuously casting a metal strand and the continuous casting system described for carrying out the same made it possible to reduce the overall height of the continuous casting system quite considerably compared to the known continuous casting systems.
Since the strand pieces are separated from the cast metal strand after straightening the same on a horizontal or at least slightly inclined path, the length of the strand pieces to be separated from the metal strand 10 can be chosen to be greater without increasing the overall height of the continuous casting plant can be of great advantage under certain circumstances for a subsequent rolling process.
The lower overall height of the continuous casting plant not only has the advantage that the continuous casting plant can be installed in many places in existing workshops in which the known continuous casting plants could not be accommodated because of their much greater overall height, but also reduces the risk of accidents during operation.
It is known to issue an oscillating movement in the direction of the metal strand in the continuous casting of the continuous mold during casting in order to prevent the metal strand from sticking in the continuous mold. This is also possible with the continuous casting system described, only here the continuous mold does not have to be straight on a straight line, but on an arc of the same curvature as the circular ring segment formed by the cast metal strand 10.
This is achieved in the following way: In the device shown in Fig. 5 for moving the continuous mold 2, the latter is provided with guide strips 23 which have circular arc-shaped curved guide surfaces, the center of curvature of these guide surfaces coinciding with the center of curvature O of the cast metal strand. These guide strips 23 run on stationary guide rollers 24 which form a circular arc-shaped path with the radius R in which the continuous mold can be moved back and forth.
One end of a link 26 is articulated on a laterally protruding axle journal of the continuous mold 2, the other end of which is mounted on the end of one arm of a two-armed lever 27. This lever 27 is mounted in a stationary bearing block 28 and a push rod 29 acts on its other arm and pivots this lever 27 back and forth.
In the embodiment of the device for moving the continuous mold 2 shown in FIG. 6, the latter is rigidly fastened by means of bolts 30 to the widened end of a lever 31. This lever 31 is mounted on an inserted into a bearing block 32, through the center of curvature of the cast Me tallstranges axis 33. An axis 34 is provided on the lever 31, on which one end of a push rod 35 is mounted, which gives the lever 31 an oscillating movement.
The drive means, not shown in Fig. 5 and 6, which the lever 27 or 31 via the push rod 29 or 35 an oscillating movement ertei len, can be of any mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic or electromagnetic type.
Instead of the starting line 20, which is composed of individual, detachably connected parts 20 ', a starting line can also be used, which is made of flexible material, for example rubber, a flexible plastic, textile material and has a metallic head piece , which is intended to close the casting space of the continuous mold at the bottom at the start of casting.
