Abstract

1352551 Casting processes INSTITUT ELEKTROSVARKI IMENI EO PATONA AKADEMII NAUK UKRAINSKOI SSR 19 April 1971 [20 April 1970 10 Aug 1970 1 Oct 1970] 9942/71 Heading B3F [Also in Division H5] In an electroslag remelting process a flow of gas under pressure is provided to wash that portion of a non-consumable electrode which is immersed in the melt. The gas is supplied through channels 20 in the interior of the electrode and passes out through openings 21 in the walls of the electrode. Grooves are provided on the surface of the electrode to ensure uniform distribution of the gas bubbles over the electrode surface. The embodiment shown in Fig. 4, may be used for continuously casting hollow ingots. In another embodiment the electrode is annular and depends into the mould from above.
