Abstract
1277716 Continuous casting machines AEGELOTHERM GmbH 18 May 1971 [16 June 1970] 15554/71 Heading B3F [Also in Division C7] Continuous casting apparatus comprises a chamber 1 having therein a vessel 3 containing molten metal 2, a mould 11, and a rising trough 8 equipped with electro-inductive heating and conveying means 9. After the vessel 3 has been introduced into the chamber, the latter is evacuated and the molten metal allowed to degas. The metal is then turned into the trough 8 and is conveyed to the upper end thereof where it flows through an opening 10 into the mould 11. Additives may be introduced into the metal in the vessel 3 from a container 6 and the pool of molten metal in the mould 11 may be heated by a plasma burner 15. An inert or reactive gas may be introduced into the chamber after degassing is complete. In an embodiment the mould is disposed horizontally and is made of 60% molybdenum oxide, 40% zirconium oxide. Some calcium- or magnesium oxide may also be present.
