Abstract
1,228,202. Continuous casting. LECTROMELT CORP. 22 Aug., 1968 [8 Feb., 1968], No. 40210/68. Heading B3F. [Also in Divisions F4 and H5] A vessel for transferring molten metal from a ladle to a continuous casting apparatus comprises a hollow body portion 16, a cover 17, a plurality of spaced discharge nozzles 20, at least one inlet port 37 for receiving molten metal from a ladle, and radiant electrical heating means 40 which is disposed below the cover and is capable of (a) preheating the body portion and the cover when the vessel is empty and (b) controlling the temperature of molten metal when contained by the vessel. A gas inlet 57 is provided in the cover 17 so that an inert gas atmosphere may be introduced into the vessel. The heating means 40 consists of a plurality of graphite rods 43 attached to graphite holders 45 by a threaded member (48). The holders 45 extend through the walls of the cover 17 and are connected to bus-bars 53 by clamps 46. A cooling fluid may be circulated through the clamps 46 and bus-bars 53 by means of the tubing 54.
