Abstract
1388773 Low pressure casting apparatus GROUPEMENT POUR LES ACTIVITES ATOMIQUES ET AVANCEES 26 Jan 1973 [7 Feb 1972] 4221/73 Heading B3F A pressure casting apparatus comprises a crucible 2 for molten metal, a mould 6, a duct 4 for conveying the metal to the mould, and an electromagnetic pump 8 in the crucible. The pressure at which the metal is forced into the mould may be adjusted by varying the electric supply voltage of said pump. Thus an increased pressure may be applied to the metal in the mould after the mould has been filled. When casting reactive metals, e.g. Al, a vacuum or inert atmosphere may be maintained above the metal in the crucible. A duct 10 is provided for cooling the windings of the pump. In an embodiment, the molten metal container is open to the atmosphere and may contain a plurality of pumps supplying a plurality of moulds. A plurality of molten metal containers may be supplied from a single furnace.
