Abstract

1342245 Casting processes and moulds HEPWORTH & GRANDAGE Ltd 6 May 1971 [14 May 1970] 23508/70 Addition to 1231795 Heading B3F [Also in Division C7] Piston rings are cast by immersing a stack of moulds 11 into a bath of ferrous metal 20. The apparatus and procedure are the same as disclosed in Specification 1,231,795 except that the moulds are made of a permanent material instead of a gas-permeable material. Consequently, vents 14 extend from the mould cavity to a central vent 14a. The moulds 11 are made of an alloy comprising Mo 99À5%; Ti 0À4%; Zr 0À1%. The moulds are not held tightly and may thus float to a limited extent when submerged in the melt.
