Abstract
1,252,954. Casting machines. AEG-ELOTHERM G.m.b.H. 24 April, 1969 [24 Sept., 1968], No. 20996/69. Heading B3F. [Also in Division H2] A method of casting metered quantities of liquid metal from a travelling field electromagnetic conveyer comprises controlling the rate of casting so that a maximum pouring rate is obtained and thereafter continuously reducing the pouring rate until a predetermined quantity of metal has been poured. The maximum pouring rate may occur at the start of casting or subsequent to the start. - The electrical circuitry for controlling the conveyer is described (see Division H2). The conveyer may be used to supply predetermined melt quantities to chill moulds, pressure diecasting machines and casting belts comprising moulds carried on a belt. When casting pigs, the maximum flow rate of melt is maintained until shortly before the predetermined melt quantity has been delivered when the flow rate is rapidly reduced to avoid dribbling of the molten metal from the pouring spout.
