Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce diecast products of high quality with a small consumption of reactive gas, in a reactive gas atmosphere diecast method, by charging reactive gas after evacuating the cavity and plunger sleeve interior.
CONSTITUTION: After completely clamping a movable die 1 and a fixed die 2, a plunger tip 5 is advanced to the position to block a pour port 6 of a plunger sleeve 4. A vacuum pump is operated to discharge air from an evacuating passage 9, and the pressure in the cavity 3 and plunger sleeve 4 is reduced. Then, a reactive gas such as oxygen is supplied from a reactive gas feed port 9 or 12, and the cavity 3 and plunger sleeve 4 is turned into a reactive gas atmosphere with a small amount of reactive gas. Then, the plunger tip 5 is set back to open the pour port 6, and molten steel 13 is charged into the sleeve 4, then the molten steel 13 is cast into the cavity 3 by means of the plunger tip 5. Thus is manufactured high quality casting free from casting shrinkage void due to inclusion of residual air.
