Abstract

1,029,622. Casting-machines. AJAX MAGNETHERMIC CORPORATION. Feb. 12, 1963 [Feb. 4, 1962], No. 5632/63. Heading B3F. [Also in Division F4] A pressure pouring furnace 10 comprises a crucible 11, a pouring spout 20 with a heating coil 29 and a restriction 32 as disclosed in Specification 748,498, and a charging tube 18 with a funnel-shaped mouth 17 and a restricted discharge orifice 40 in the bottom wall 41 disposed below the normal maximum level A and normal minimum level A<SP>1</SP> of the molten metal. Pressurized gas enters the furnace through a tube 50, a solenoid valve 52, a chamber 54 and an opening 56, and heating is by an induction coil 12 inducing heat in channels 13 and 14. In a tilting furnace, Fig. 5 (not shown), the charging tube is disposed at an angle in a side wall opposite the pouring spout. The charging tube is made of silicon carbide bonded with silicon nitride. Known control apparatus varies the gas pressure or the time this pressure is applied according to the quantity of metal required at each pour.
