Abstract
1,027,537. Ladles; metal mixers; nozzles. BRITISH CAST IRON RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. March 8, 1965 [March 14, 1961], No. 10892/64. Heading F4B. [Also in Division B4] A refractory lined ladle or holding furnace is fitted with a gas-permeable plug 4 for introducing gas into the metal contained therein, which plug 4 fits tightly into a hollow truncated clay graphite bush 3 embedded in but separate from the refractory lining 2. The plug 4 which is removable from outside the container, is formed as an inner permeable olivine sand core and a surrounding non- permeable clay graphite shell and is provided with a flange 6 which seats in the counterbore of a disc-shaped base plate 8 held against the metal underside 1 of the container by means of pins 10 and wedges 12. A clamping plate 16 formed with a gas passage 18 closes off the underside of the plug 4 being held against it by studs 13, 14 and wedges 15. A plug extractor tool (see Division B4) is provided to facilitate removal of the plug assembly.
