Abstract

1,239,458. Casting ladle nozzles. NIPPON STEEL CORP. 30 Oct., 1968 [31 July, 1968], No. 51436/68. Heading F4B. A nozzle for pouring molten metal from a casting ladle or tundish comprises refractory material of a siliceous nature, e.g. pyrophillite, fireclay &c. having longitudinal ridges formed on the inside wall which is impregnated with tar. The ridges may number five to eight and they may be joined by semi-circular arcs and the tar may be pitch or anthracene oil. After being impregnated with tar at 130‹ C. for 10 hours, the nozzles are baked at 130‹ C. for ten hours and are then baked for 7-8 hours at 300-350‹ C.
